Let your relationship with math and your children transform!
The benefits of reading stories to our children at nighttime have been shared countless times over, and for good reason. Reading improves literacy skills. Why is it that we don’t do math with our children before bed?
Math Before Bed is a collection of prompts that can inspire mathematical discussions that you and your children can have before bed, at dinner, or anytime. Each page in this book shows you and your child a perplexing problem. Sometimes there is one right answer and sometimes there are many right answers The purpose of each question is to generate a discussion about HOW you determined an answer. If you find one answer, try to find another. You could complete one page a night, or many pages.
About The Book:
I received an email from Deb from Woodstock Ontario who had a story to tell about how her relationships with math and her kids was transformed. Here is a part of her email:
“I’ve always been terrible at math my whole life but this small discussion with my kids moved me one step closer to liking it….just like my kids like it!! The discussion we had was so nice. I don’t usually hear about what math they are doing at school and it was so amazing to have this discussion with them. So I’m writing this to you as a thank you!”
In this video we experience that transformation when we hear two seven year olds talk their way through solving a patterning prompt.
Changing your nighttime routine can be hard. In this video I address some common concerns and objections to using Math Before Bed with our children:
