You can also sum the little squares by adding 1+3+5+7+9+11+13 ((yellow)+(blue)+(green)+(orange)+(red)+(dark blue)+(burgundy)). Since visually this forms a square the sum is also 7^2. Generally this is true.The sum of the first n odd numbers is n^2.\

  1. 7 x 7= 49 and since the whole picture is a square the final answer would be that there are 50 squares.
